General workflow of beREADY test

Personal endometrium maturation and optimal timing for embryo transferring is detected based on a small tissue sample that is taken from the uterus with a thin catheter. Tissue sampling procedure does not injure the uterus and the tissue regenerates in the next menstrual cycle. However, embryo transferring during the same menstrual cycle as beREADY testing, is not possible. The biopsy is taken at the exact same time and using the same treatment as your embryo transfer would be. This mimics the conditions during your embryo transferring. Handling of personal data

All personal data is protected according to law and transferred to laboratory only via a safe digital website. No personal data or documents are attached with the shipment. The test results are uploaded to a secure online environment that your doctor has access to. The patient may request the doctor for a printed copy of the beREADY report, which includes all relevant treatment and tissue sampling taking time information.

Endometrium – is the inner layer of the uterus that is responsible for embryo implantation and the entire pregnancy. Endometrium is a several millimeters thick soft tissue that renews in every menstrual cycle. Its thickness and maturation rate are individual, depending on the woman’s personal physiology.

Biomarker – it is a general name of molecules that are analysed and that reflect the certain condition at a high confidence. For every beREADY test, a total of 67 key genes are used as biomarkers to characterize the readiness of endometrium and find out your personal way of endometrium maturation.

Biomarker analysis – it involves laboratory and data analysis that takes place in beREADY laboratory. In beREADY test, the activity of the genes that reflect endometrium receptivity is measured by highly precise sequencing technology and the sequencing data of each patient is compared to a validated reference set of hundreds of previously studied patients. The summary of patient’s biomarker analysis is compiled in the beREADY report, showing the status of your endometrium and providing a receptivity score on the receptometer plot.

Receptometer – shows the exact score of receptivity, which allows us to track the numeric improvement in case the patient needs another sampling before embryo transfer. Score 100 means that the analyzed tissue sample is perfectly receptive. Score below 70 shows that the tissue is pre-receptive and definitely needs more time to become receptive. Score above 130 means that the tissue is over-matured and not optimal for embryo transfer. The optimal time has passed, so the embryos should be transferred sooner than planned.

HRT – abbreviation for Hormone Replacement Therapy, which is a standard in IVF clinic. The usage of specific drugs, hormones, is required to ensure the readiness of endometrium for embryo implantation on a specific day of your cycle. The hormone induced endometrium maturation and exact timing is critical for doctors to be sure that frozen embryos are thawed at the right time and be ready for transferring by the optimal time.

WOI – abbreviation for Window Of Implantation. The WOI is a one to three day period in the menstrual cycle when the embryo can attach to the mother’s endometrium and produce a pregnancy. Scientists believe that the first embryo-endometrium communication and attaching takes place during the WOI period and that it is a precondition of pregnancy.

ART – Assisted Reproductive Treatment is a synonym of reproductive medicine. In other words it means that pregnancy is achieved by the help of doctors, special tests and interviews, fertility treatment plan and laboratory effort.

IVF – abbreviation for a term In-Vitro Fertilization, fertilization under laboratory conditions, is commonly used expression in everyday language and means the same as ART. More specifically, IVF means egg fertilization procedure by sperm in controlled laboratory conditions.

Gene expression – shows how genes work and how they contribute to endometrium maturation, for example. We all have around 25,000 genes that are responsible for different functions in our body. Each tissue’s functionality, including the uterus, is regulated by hormone-induced genes’ ON and OFF switches that ensure a receptive endometrium at an expected point in time.

Embryo – the term used to describe the early stages of fetal growth, from conception of the egg to the eighth week of pregnancy.

Blastocyst – A blastocyst is a specific phase in embryo development. The exact time from a single cell, egg conception by sperm until day 5 or 6 of development. On day 5 or 6 it forms a cluster that contains approximately 200 cells. At that point it is a blastocyst and ready to be transferred to the uterus.

Hatching & implantation – While the embryo develops, it is surrounded by protective shell (zona pellucida). During the embryo hatching in uterus, the embryo grows out of its protective shell and is ready to implantate to the wall of the uterus.

Drug response – The purpose of the drug is to trigger or block some certain physiological process. Drug response is a general term that characterizes the expected, moderate or lack of drug effect to tissue. In HRT, drugs are used to achieve receptive endometrium. The beREADY test indicates whether the drug response has been sufficient or not.

Readiness of endometrium –  The readiness means that the endometrium accepts embryo and enables it to hatch and implantate.

Gene – Gene is a DNA sequence in genome that has specific function in body. The regulation of gene expression makes things happen and turns non-receptive endometrium to receptive, for example. The genes itself do not make any action. Many factors can affect the genes’ activity, also hormones and other bio-molecules that are used in Assisted Reproductive Treatment.

Personalized treatment plan – Based on the beREADY test results, treatment plan can be modified according your personal endometrial maturation time.

RNA – RNA comes from genes that are activated by hormones and other bio-molecules. RNA is a critical part in cells’ functioning, producing specific proteins and making endometrium tissue receptive in certain time period.

TAC-seq methodology – it is a patent pending laboratory method that is designed for precise biomarker analysis. First the biomarker molecules are captured and then analyzed by DNA sequencing. As an outcome, all 67 beREADY genes get a number of detected biomarker molecules, providing input for data analysis and beREADY test report.

General questions

Does the beREADY test guarantee a pregnancy? 

Failure of embryo implantation can be caused by other reasons like embryo quality. Due to that reason the beREADY test cannot guarantee you a pregnancy, but it does give your doctor a guidance of how to personalize your IFV treatment if you have displaced WOI and increases your chances of getting pregnant. Our experience shows that many women with previous implantation failure become pregnant after using the beREADY test in their personalised treatment plan.

How quickly do I receive results?

The test results are sent to your doctor within 14 working days after beREADY laboratory has received your sample. The average laboratory turnaround time is 7-9 working days. Usually results are received early enough to modify treatment plan already in the following IVF cycle.

My personal WOI is significantly shifted. What next?

Your doctor will modify your treatment plan according to the recommendation sent by the beREADY laboratory. If the re-sampling during next cycle is recommended, you will be suggested to give a new biopsy to confirm that a receptive endometrium and optimal WOI is achieved.

Does re-sampling cost?

beREADY test report can recommend a re-biopsy to confirm that the optimal WOI is achieved. To be sure that your personalized treatment plan is effective, one repetition of the sample analysis is free-of-charge.
